S I Instruments, the Australian distributor for Mecmesin , a manufacturer of force and torque testing equipment, has announced the launch of the Orbis Mk2, a unique new closure torque tester.
Torque measurement is essential in the development of an effective screw closure, as it enables the correct balance to be struck between accessibility and security.
In production, meanwhile, simple in-line torque checks ensure capping machinery is applying the correct level of torque, to guarantee consistent quality.
The Mecmesin Orbis Top Cap Tester has been specifically designed as a high-accuracy, portable instrument for measuring clockwise and counter-clockwise torques.
Using the latest integrated circuit technology and intuitive programming, the Orbis is easy to use by all operators.
Equally at home in the laboratory or at the point of production, the compact and portable Orbis features a tough, water-resistant casing (rated to IP54), fabricated in non-painted polypropylene, also making it suitable for use in pharmaceutical environments.
The most commonly used features such as displaying torque, peak hold, zero and changing of displayed units can all be done by pressing single, dedicated keys on the front panel.
The Orbis Closure Torque Tester detects and stores maximum (peak) torque in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions.
The Orbis from S I Instruments features an internal rechargeable battery pack, which is supplied fully charged to allow use straight from the box and may also be powered directly from the mains.
The Orbis has an accuracy of ± 0.5% of full scale, a range of 0 - 6N.m (0 - 60kgf.cm, 0 - 53lbf.in) , 9 selectable units of measurement and accepts container diameters from 10mm up to 190mm.
It is possible to transmit the displayed reading to peripheral devices (e.g. PC or printer) by pressing and releasing the TXD key as the Orbis has RS232, Digimatic and analogue output signals.
