A new laboratory instrument available from IDM Instruments Pty Ltd asseses the softness of tissue and fabrics, for the selection and control of pulp/fibers.

Applications of the Tissue Softness Analyzer (TSA) from Emtec, include production control, product optimisation, comparison of products and R&D.

The softness of tissue is a fundamental quality parameter for manufacturers and converters of tissue, as well as chemical suppliers and machine builders.

Utilising advanced technology, the TSA gathers the relevant single parameters including smoothness, compressibility, stiffness and crumpleability of tissue, and calculates a softness parameter.

The TSA can be used on base tissues, tissue handkerchiefs, tissue towels, toilet tissue, facial tissue and tissue kitchen towels.

It features a very user-friendly and easy to operate software program, with a menu driven measurement.

Other features include integrated measurement of ambient temperature and humidity, easy handling, robust construction, objective measuring method, high reproducibility of results, and the option of operating with or without a PC, with results shown via an integrated display.

When connected to a PC, the TSA provides the evaluation of results, data storage, and trend presentation using high performance PC software.
