FIJI Water, a premium bottled water company, is implementing an environmental strategy that will involve changes to its packaging and shipping and will involve the use of renewable energies.
The FIJI Green program is a comprehensive approach to lessen its environmental impact by reducing carbon in the atmosphere with every bottle of FIJI Water produced and sold.
In partnership with Conservation International, FIJIWater plans to develop forest carbon and renewable energy projects that will take carbon out of the atmosphere.
“As consumers become more environmentally aware and active, they are looking toward leadership brands like FIJI Water that support their efforts to live a greener lifestyle and reduce their own environmental footprint," Conservation International chief executive officer, Peter Seligmann said.
The FIJI Green initiative includes several key strategies:
- Carbon emissions will be reduced by 25% across its product lifecycles by 2010.
- By 2010, 50% of FIJI Water’s energy to power its bottling facility will come from renewable sources, like wind.
- The amount of packaging used will be reduced by more than 20% over the next three years.
- The use of recycled inputs will be increased.
- 100% recyclable PET plastic will be used for all bottles.
- Advocate for improved curbside recycling and container deposit bills that include bottled water.
