Blackmores reaches the Evolution Awards finals

Blackmores, last year’s winner of the Pharmaceutical Packaging Action Award, this year sponsored by Cospak, has become a finalist again in 2007.

Maintaining momentum from last year’s win, the company has achieved a continuous waste-free flow of packaging between its Balgowlah Plant and Brookvale warehouse for 90% of its shipments.

The remaining percentage is stretch wrapped and this is recycled.

Cardboard cartons, shippers and pallets are all reused.

Blackmores’ principle packaging items are recycled glass containers and cardboard cartons, which are easily recycled by consumers and businesses.

The Balgowlah warehouse is paperless; a radiofrequency system registers stock and the orders are actioned electronically.

Arranged to improve distribution efficiency, it works in such a way that minimum packaging is needed to distribute the order.

The company also disseminates information on reducing packaging waste to employers and consumers alike via staff training and its website, respectively.

Blackmores is currently investigating ‘buy recycled’ policy options.
