Visy Glama has changed the Australian print industry forever, with the introduction of its $6m super-large format sheet-fed press and plant —the largest offset press ever installed in Australasia.

The $6m investment changes the Australian printing industry landscape, offering faster, lower cost, higher quality print solutions for packaging, point-of purchase displays, posters, banners and signage.

Customer benefits include: huge sheet size and thickness, low cost, high quality, high speed and versatility of print surface.

Other benefits include:

  • Ability to print on a wider variety of substrates
  • Faster cycle time
  • More consistency with longer runs
  • Enhanced quality and cost efficiencies
  • Single source fulfilment for total job control
  • Switch from screen print to large format offset for significant savings

Located in Revesby NSW, the Rapida 205 — called Max - is the world's largest UV sheet-fed offset press, equally capable of printing on plastic as it is on board and paper and able to print five colours, plus gloss and UV varnish.

The Rapida 205 brings greater variety and flexibility for clients requiring large scale printing and offers substantial efficiencies and cost savings for posters; point-of-purchase displays; banners and signage; and packaging.

Technical information

Some of the Rapida 205’s major innovations include an inker declutching in every unit; automated make ready, including fully automatic plate changing, wash-up on blanket, plate and impression cylinders as standard features.

Changing stocks is easy, with no gripper setting adjustments required. The press also has a complete UV system for printing on plastic and other specialty substrates.

The press is designed to run at speeds of 9,000 sheets per hour (sph), with an exceptionally short inking unit with just 16 rollers allowing for low wastage and short washing times.

The 205 also offers substrate flexibility, including a wide range of paper, board and metallised stocks from 0.1mm up to 1.2mm and even 1.6mm on request.
